His play in the 1987 tournament set the record for the largest winning margin (at seven shots), the best stroke average (66.00) and the lowest winning score to par, at 264 (-20). In 1996, Ian Woosnam set the record for the highest winning score in the Scottish Open, at 289 (+1).

Ian Woosnam follows Colin Montgomerie in having earned the most top 10 finishes in the Scottish Open – with a total of nine top 10 finishes by Montgomerie and seven by Woosnam.

In 2001, South African Retief Goosen set the Scottish Open record for the course at Loch Lomond, at par 62.

In Scottish Open history, a total of 14 holes-in-one have been scored. At the Loch Lomond course, holes to watch are the 5th, 8th, 11 and 17th – all of which have seen more multiple holes-in one. Holes-in-one were scored in the Scottish Open by:
