Khan and McDowell take the lead in 3rd round

Angel Cabrera had a terrible day at the office on the 3rd day of the 2008 Scottish Open. Cabrera started the 2rd round as a 1 shot leader, and held his own for par on the front nine before a meltdown on the back nine effectively put pay to his hopes of claiming the 2008 Scottish Open title.

Cabrera scored 42 over the back nine, resulting in an overall round of 78 that saw him slip down to 37th place. Meanwhile Ireland’s Graeme McDowell took up the slack from Cabrera, scoring a five under par 66 to take a share of the lead going into the final round.

McDowell was joined at the top of the leaderboard by Englishman Simon Khan, who scored five birdies to climb out of third place and into the position of joint leader with a 68 that left him on 10 under for the tournament.

2008 European Open winner, Ross Fisher, also put in a strong performance, scoring 68 for the second time in the tournament to take a share of third place. Meanwhile Phil Mickelson’s hopes of claiming a Scottish Open title slipped away as he ended the day on 4 under par for the tournament.
