Scottish golf searching for answers at Loch Lomond

Posted on by godadnet

As the Scottish Open gets underway at Loch Lomond golf course, concerns mount over the state of the Scottish game.

The nation that gave golf to the world has not been faring well on the fairways of late. The Scots once dominated tournament golf in Europe, and won a good selection of tournaments on American soil too.

However, in recent years there has been a derth of decent Scottish players in the global game, and at present the Scots can boast only two golfers ranked in the game’s top one hundred.

Both of these players languish at near the bottom of the top 100, with Colin Montgomerie best positioned as world number 80, and Alastair Forsythe living a charmed life in 98th position.

To make matters worse only three Scottish golfers have automatic exemption for next week’s Open Championship, with only Montgomerie, Sandy Lyle and Paul Lawrie set to represent their country in the biggest golf tournament in the United Kingdom.

Fans of the Scottish game are hoping that a new generation of talented youngsters will come through for Scotland, and that the likes of Richie Ramsay and Lloyed Saltman will return Scottish golf to a semblance of its former self.
