Woods unable to set return date

Uncertainty surrounds Tiger Woods’ future after the world number one underwent knee surgery last week.

Doctors used a tendon from the star’s right hamstring to rebuild muscle tissue on his left knee. While Woods is hoping the surgery will make his legs stronger than before, doctors have admitted that it is impossible to set a date for his return.

Woods dramatic victory at the 2008 US Open has come at a high price, with the world number one now unable to participate in events for at least the remainder of the year.

Woods seems to have accepted the setback with typical stoicism, claiming that the time lost is a worthy sacrifice for the opportunity to play golf on a good left knee. Woods claims that he has suffered discomfort with his left knee since first joining the PGA Tour.

“It will be nice to finally have a healthy leg,” Woods told reporters at a conference. “They assured me my long-term health will be a hell of a lot better than it’s been over the last decade. I’m really looking forward to that.”

Woods words don’t bode well for the other players in the PGA Tour who will be wondering what feats the world number one is capable of if his previous achievements were made despite chronic physical discomfort.
